This PowerPoint presentation explains the process of mitosis. All complex organisms originated from a single fertilised egg. Every cell in your body started from this one egg and increased in numbers through cell division. Cells then specialise and adopt various different roles.
Mitosis is the process by which new body cells are produced for:
- Growth
- Cell replacement (old or damaged cells)
Mitosis is a complex process requiring different stages.
The parent cell splits into two daughter cells and all daughter cells contain the same genetic information copied from the original parent cell.
Every different type of cell in your body contains the same genes, but only some diversify into specialist cells – e.g. into nerve or muscle tissue.
